He suggested me following:

Always cross the photocopy of our xerox copy of the identity proof you give to Bank, Mobile company e.t.c. and write over it as 'GIVEN FOR BANK........FOR IDENTITY VERIFICATION ON THIS DATE........'

Make lot of sense.

To check up the lovely advertisement i heard over Radio about getting loan in 5 minutes, and reading this thread, I gave a try by writing an email enquiring about personal loan. After one full day of non response I called up in their toll number which operates from 9 AM to 7 PM. True to being professional, exactly the call center opened up at 9 AM and took my call.

The help desk which was not at Delhi asked me the details and informed me that the nearest branch would call me up within next 24 hours.

I got a call after 6 hours, and on asking about personal loan, they informed me to read the brochure they would dispatch via courier. Waited for another 24 hours, and called up the help desk.

They lodged the complaint and informed that the local Muthoot center was wrong in sending brochure and they should have told the scheme over phone. Told me to wait for another 24 hours.

Next day I got a call from the local delhi center at Cannaught place and the lady was sounding very angry as to why I complained. When I insisted upon telling me the schemes, she told you need to give some more time for courier to come.

On further insistence, the lady told me that they only have one scheme running that is loan against the gold, and that I must read the brochure and then call up again.

You need to gather about them, from the experience I had with them. Till today I had not received any courier. Wonder what does 'approval in 5 minutes' mean when the pre-processing help is of this standard.

What to do in case of Credit Card Misuse?

Activate the SMS service for card and acted very promptly within 2-3 days of transaction. All users should learn from this. A stitch in time saves...

Activate the SMS service for card and acted very promptly within 2-3 days of transaction. All users should learn from this. A stitch in time saves nine.

Here are the suggestions

1. You must first of all write to them physically about misuse of the credit card.
2. Ask for the complete details of the card transactions, item purchased and the details of the IP address from where the internet transaction has occurred.
3. For the safety purpose, block your credit card straight way and ask them to issue another Card.
4. Keep record of the credit card transaction always handy.

Do read the complete knowledge base article on credit card frauds here:
http://www.bighelpers.org/forum/bank...rd-frauds.html

Also given by K Shah in this post:

give a call to call center - explain the case and say, you are filing a dispute for this. note the time, date and person with whom you talked. Take the complaint number.

with complaint detail, number etc., write a letter to Credit Card Provider. If possible visit them personally and get an acknowledged copy back for you. If they don't give you acknowledgement, send via registered post.

Mention in your conversation and complaint letter - You are ready to co operate in case of police complaint. (I feel its a fraud with Credit card provider as you have filed a dispute within reasonable time, the Bank shall take a decision about police complaint)

Block the card.

As it is internet transaction, you will not be having much of documentation but keep credit card bill etc, SMS and any other information if you have for future reference.

Keep record of all communication you receive from Credit Card Provider (via phone, mail or person)

Wait for a week and send a reminder to Credit Card Provider about this.

If you are having problem with goods or services, purchased by you, then you need to initiate following steps:

1. Make oral complaint to the local dealer and customer care contact number of the company, which is available on its website or with the local dealer. Note down name of person, date, time and complaint number.

2. If no satisfactory action is initiated in a week, lodge detailed written complaint with the company, by sending email/complaint with copy to the local dealer. Visit customer care or contact us link on the website of the company for address. In case of telephone, banks, insurance companies, address complaint to Nodal Officer at its H. O.

3. After 15 days, scale-up the complaint to Chairman of the Company with copy to local dealer and claim compensation for mental tension, agony in addition to refund of price of goods or services, with interest and expenses. Give him 15 days time for redressal. Invoke warranty/guarantee in complaint.

4. If the problem continues, write to national and local NGOs who are working for consumer protection and send copies to the Chairman of the company, its local dealer and consumer protection council which works under the District Collector at Collectorate Office.

5. Simultaneously post your complaint at www.corecentre.co.in or contact toll free No. 1800-11-4000 from bsnl/mtnl land line

6. If problem pertains to central govt department or public section undertaking, lodge complaint at www.pgportal.gov.in. If problem is pertaining to share or securities, email complaint to SEBI and NSE by visiting their websites.

7. Keep date-wise record of visit of technician or oral discussion with the dealer or customer care executive of service provider. In case if any paper is required to be signed by company representative, obtain a photocopy of the same, before signing.

8. If the problem still continues, you should file complaint with Ombudsman where-ever Ombudsman Scheme [banking, insurance, electricity etc] exists. For details visit websites of RBI, IRDA etc. This is fast, cost effective system.

9. If nothing works for a month, lodge a complaint with District Consumer Forum for claims upto Rs.20 lakhs. Claim amount as per notice stated in para 3 above. You can yourself plead your case if amount is not substantial, otherwise it is advisable to have services of an advocate practicing in consumer protection. In Consumer Forum fees are nominal, procedure is simple and comparatively fast.

10. If the supplier of goods or service provider is a govt. department or undertaking, follow-up your complaint with The Right to Information Act 2005. For this, visit my article “Any thing pending with Govt?” posted in RTI label at my blog www.jps50.blogspot.com and at jps50 blog at www.rtiindia.org

Use of rti in consumer protection

The Right to Information Act 2005 [RTI] enables a citizen to access information from government depts, offices and organisations. It also allows access to information of private entity through government authority.

To effectively present his case, the aggrieved consumer needs to have information and documents. For example if there are unauthorised or fraudulent debits to your account with a bank, you first should have details of such debits. If insurance claim is rejected, you must know not only reasons but also the process followed to arrive at decision of rejection. In case if your application to a government dept is not being attended, you should know why it is pending and what action has so far been taken. If a road is repaired by municipal corporation and the same gets washed away in first rains, you should be in a position to find out reasons thereof by getting details of contract and material actually used etc. If you get exorbitant electricity bills, you need to get all the details and causes for such bills from records of service provider. Without having necessary and authentic information and papers with you, it would not be possible to effectively exert your right as a consumer.

RTI lays down a cost effective, time bound and simple procedure for extracting information, papers and samples from government authorities. It has confered a right to this effect in Indian citizen and it flows from fundamental rights guaranteed under article 19 of the Constitution of India.

RTI has been successful in reducing corruption to some extent. Any wrong doing by public servants can be exposed with simple application under RTI. Thus the public and consumers of govt services and goods are benefitted. RTI has also alerted government servants to attend citizens' work in prescribed time limit, lest questions will be asked under RTI. RTI has also made government machinery to efficiently discharge their duties, lest citizens will seek and divulge information pertaining to their dereliction of duties. A sense of accountability has been infused in government working through RTI, which has positive effect on users of government services.

Aggrieved consumers should resort to RTI for redressal of their consumer problems. In fact, RTI should precede action under Consumer Protection.

For information about RTI citizens can access www.rti.gov.in, www.cic.gov.in, www.rtiindia.org, www.prajanet.org or my blog at www.jps50.blogspot.com.

How to address problems with banks?

If you are having problem with any bank, initiate following steps:

1. Lodge a complaint on phone/mobile with the customer care helpline of the bank and note down complaint number, date, time and name of the person who attended your call. Details of contact numbers of customer care can be had from website of the bank.

2. If nothing transpires to your satisfaction, send a detailed written complaint, with copies of papers held by you to the branch of the bank and obtain acknowledgement or send by registered/speed post ad. Simultaneously if possible, send an email by visiting bank’s website. Now most of the banks are having branch wise contact details and email IDs.

3. If no action is initiated or you are not satisfied with the reply, address the complaint to Nodal Officer at Head Office of the bank. Give details of your complaint to customer care and bank branch and their reply or no reply. Contact details are available on bank’s website under customer service/care icon. Send it by registered/speed ad post and also email the same.

4. If you do not get proper reaction within a month from the bank, file a complaint with banking ombudsman of your state by visiting www.bankingombudsman-rbi.org.in. Procedure is simple, cost effective and prompt.

5. You have one year time from date of cause of action to approach banking ombudsman. If you are not satisfied with the decision of banking ombudsman, you can file appeal to Dy. Governor of RBI at its H.O. in Mumbai.

6. If you are still not satisfied, you can resort to Consumer Protection Act. You have maximum two years time from date of cause of action.

7. If you are not having necessary papers, in case of nationalized banks you can simultaneously resort to The Right to Information Act for getting the papers.

8. You need not hire any advocate for approaching nodal officer or banking ombudsman. You can communicate in English, Hindi or regional language. Even for Complaint under Consumer Protection Act there is no need of advocate, but it is advisable if amount involved is substantial.

9. If possible, you can take assistance of a serving or retired officer of the bank for properly drafting the complaint.

10. You can also refer the matter to NGOs working for consumer protection in your area and also www.core.nic.in [central govt helpline]. They also take up the matter with banks on your behalf. You can get details of NGOs by searching on yahoo/google etc.

11. When ever you personally discuss your problem with bank officer, note down his name and designation with date, place and time of discussion. Send an email giving gist of discussion. This is necessary, as the officer cannot retract later on unless he refutes your gist sent by email by return post.

Man, Money and machine is main element of every business and now a days the cost of man is increasing day by day and the opportunity of income is decreasing day by day. In this situation if such a high rate of interest is being paid to money holders it will definately create crisis in market. May be so many other bank will bankrupt in coming days. In my opinion the interest cost must be maximum 6%. In case we are maintaining 6% we may able to face the cost of idle funds. I am sorry to say here that day by day professionalism is increasing but decisions are not being taken which may tell us professional decision. Please discuss.

Reliance Broadnet, my personal experience says not to use it.

Continuing from my previous experience in the blog where the reliance continued to reply by not resolving my issue, here is the further correspondence.

Not hearing from them I wrote again on 16th August:
Would you be kind enough to update me about the progress of the complaint.

After some hours I got this reply:

Quote:

Some thoughts:

1. From 3rd August 2008, Reliance disconnected my services pending high usage....Why did they not inform that?
2. Even because of mistake of Reliance for not resolving online bill payment issue, why did they not restore the services
3. On 13th August 2008, on due date I made the payment through cheque, but found that my services were not restored.
4. On confirmation found that I again need to pay 1310/- because I had exceeded the limit of my quota.
5. When my monthly plan is 1500/- per month, it means every 15 days my telephone would be barred from usage because of high unbilled usage....

I am waiting for my restoration, so that I disconnect my reliance services.

Really a bad policy and bad service provider....

Will update when I finally get the disconnection.

I highly recommend every new user of broadband to desist from using reliance broadnet services.

I took the reliance broadnet connection which was started on 19th July 2008 with 1499/- broardband plan which included 7.5 GB of Data transfer per month.

The 1st bill got generated on 23rd July on pro-rata basis and with a usage of 5 days I got a heft bill of 1878/-. Nobody to blame except me for not understanding the pro-rata basis...I used only 2.5 GB but that exceeded the pro-rata amount.

Within 2 days my phone was disconnected because of high usage and exceeding the credit limit.

I tired all efforts to register online but everytime it would return a pop-up error as "my Subscriber ID is not available"

I lodged complaint over phone :
73243067

It was promised that within 12 hours the issue would be resolved. Failing which I kept on calling them, who apolozised but never resolved.

So finally I wrote email:

Delhi is notorious for its crimes . Snatching incidences are quite common. If one goes to the police station, the Police do agree to write the FIR, but they also caution that will one be ready to identify the criminal knowing full well the consequences? Right from petty crimes to big ones , people are afraid to be a witness. The justice is also so delayed that people lose hope . As a result the crimes are increasing in this country which is inevitable. Today in front of the police , Japanese tourists were molested and all their belongings snatched at Puri (a religious place). The tourists were so disgusted with the whole system that they had not lodged an FIR. Where is the protection from the criminals in this country? What a common man will do in this case , just helplessly see himself robbed and molested? Because law and the police are for the powerful people only. This is a country run by the powerful people , for the powerful people and of the powerful people. A common man is only a servant and a dispensable commodity of these power lobby?

My question is how much each builder is paying Tax to the Government? Is there any database available anywhere?

 Hello Shivani Bajaj,
Thank You again for the information. I understand why you cannot make things transparent at your end. However, one of your outsourced agency 'KINGS SOLUTIONS', kirti Nagar agent again called me yesterday to offer me ABN AMRO Credit card because I am having ICICI Credit card. When I asked him how did he get my mobile number and that he knows about my holding of ICICI credit card, he told that the ABN AMRO Bank Senior Officials send them via 'net' to them.
Agency Name: Kings Solutions, Kirti Nagar
In reply to my repeated query as to how the data of mine residing with ICICI credit card was being used by the BPO Marketing executive of your esteemed company and who kept on calling me for three occasions, you had replied with " Please note we do not share our database with any other organisation as per the policy."
3. Would you be kind enough to tell me if you have a signed agreement wherein ICICI would reveal the credit card customers telephone numbers? As I had not signed any paper/document/deed/decree with ICICI to reveal my telephone number, I would like to also take up the matter with ICICI.
The agents collected my card from my office, and I got the confirmation call. I was happy to experiment with a new card named 'ABN AMRO Credit Card', though I already had existing plethora of cards.
Unfortunately the trouble started when I got an email from ABN AMRO that my application has been rejected because I did not meet the credit policy of their Bank.

My Tryst with Samsung AC

Just stretching my legs in the cool breeze of Samsung Moderato Split AC after a long time. It feels as if the true AC comfort in Delhi Summer is...

Just stretching my legs in the cool breeze of Samsung Moderato Split AC after a long time. It feels as if the true AC comfort in Delhi Summer is mine.

Not long though I had been struggling to get it's temperature down, but it appeared to me that Samsung Moderato never respects my body temperature. I need to put the temperature to 16 degrees to get the cooling effect of 25 degrees.

The problem to me was malfunctioning of thermostat which would incorrectly show the room temperature less. For example if the temperature it is detecting of room is 20 degrees, keeping the AC temperature to 20 degrees would trip it's compressor. if the thermostat is faulty it wrongly detects the temperature of the room to be 20, instead of 28-30 degrees.

From the past 8 months or so I had been struggling with this issue, and raised a complaint with the customer care. They were kind enough to send the service engineer dot on time. As usual they were highly polite, and cordial.

That's it!

The engineer won't budge a bit and would justify the issue by making me realize that I do not understand anything of cooling phenomenon. He was also sure that the room temperature after cooling kept at 16 degrees was correct even though he was sweating.

The 2007 summer passed and we closed the AC for yet another hot summers to face for 2008.

However, this time I was sure not to have samsung India have it's own way.

As usual, this year too the service engineer came, but were more hell bent on doing the service of the AC than correcting the problem of temperature. When I came back from office, the AC was shinning and my wife was very happy that Service engineer had cleaned everything from the AC. She also scolded me that "Why you are not so good in cleaning the AC as they are"? :o

Taking all those Samsung shinning, I started the AC only to fade the shine in sheen. The AC started detecting room temperature as 21 degrees and the same old story...

I made another call and complaint to samsung regarding the issue, and they were prompt enough to send the service engineer the same day.

This time I decided to beat him in his logic. I was surprised that the service engineer kept the cool all through this time, perspiring, but adamant on the issue that I do not understand how cooling is. He made me feel stupid all though this time.

I insisted on him to kindly escalate the matter to the right person, if he is unable to solve it. He would immediately respond by accepting my request, but would always end the statement as 'I'll call other engineer, but there is nothing can be done. And that you need to change your view point'.

Finally I decided to write a complaint via email. Here is the content:

 Hello Support,

My AC detials:
Model: Samsung Moderato
Serial No: 0509 PAJP 300018
Model: AS 18 MSAN
Date of purchase: 18/05/2007
Online registration NO: 46905

I had complaint last year August 2007 about the thermostat defect of the AC, for you your company was kind enough to send the service engineer. Unfortunately the service engineer justified that there is no problem, and went with correcting it. I ran the AC last summer with the problem persisting and continuing this year too.

The issue: The room temperature the electronic panel is displaying is way below to what is the actual temperature. For example if the room temperature today is 29-30 (approx.) it is displaying 22-23 Degrees. Now to get the cooling of around 23-24 degrees, I had to shift the AC temperature to 16-17 degrees (because the thermostat is detecting the room temperature to be 22 degrees to start with). If I keep the temperature in auto mode which try to maintain the temperature of 24-25 degrees, with this defective AC system, the compressor will never start.

Now the Service engineer has been trying to convince me that there are different layers of temperature in the room, and therefore you will have to keep the temperature at 20 degrees always to get the desired cooling. in effect he tried to convince once again today that everything is normal.

My Service call request number is: BP:8405914380

May I request you to help me correct the issue with and if my contention if proved right, kindly compensate my mental agony and harassment caused to me by taking appropriate action against the service engineer immediately.

For You information: I will use this email and consequent replies in appropriate public forums.

Thank You!

With Kind Regards,

Punjab National Bank NEFT transaction, things you must know!

To start with I had fairly good experience with PNB and their proactive approach at the managerial level. I must congratulate them for being better...

To start with I had fairly good experience with PNB and their proactive approach at the managerial level. I must congratulate them for being better than Private Sector Banks. They add lot of personal touch at the highest of level. I mean it is much easier to approach senior level than is possible with any Private sector Bank. It may not be exactly because of them becoming accessible but others (especially) Juniors making them run for the job.

I am not sure if any body of you had been treated with cups of tea and snacks by no other than Chief General Manager just to get your personal saving bank account opened.

I did NEFT transaction to transfer some amount to my other bank account. It got debited from my PNB Bank account the next day, but would not show up for another day into my other bank account.

I decided to call the Help desk to get the status of my transaction. As usual, the Help desk was over polite but empty in knowledge. He let me hold the call for sizable amount of time only to return some verbose Sorries. And of course he was satisfied when he returned back with 2 Mumbai office telephone number.

I decided to settle my apprehension as it was my lunch hour. So I made the call at 022-22627523. The gentle man was gentle enough to mis-interpret my query and looked very confidant in explaining to me that my transaction had been reverted back.

On my repeated insistence for allowing me to explain the nature of my issue, he was happy to tell me that it was not his department to handle this. He was handling transaction above 100000 RTGS transfers. He discussed with the colleague which I was able to overhear, that the other employee was responsible for the NEFT settlement.

But he finally decided not to hand over phone to the one who was sitting around him, but insisted that I call NEFT department at this number: 022-22627529 where Mr. Sethi would solve the problem. (who was sitting beside him)

I decided to give a try, but to my dismay, the phone was never picked up. To check up if the phone was not dead, I called up another time to RTGS dept number 022-22627523 and simultaneously at 022-22627529 and I could hear the other bell ringing. This made me sure that the phone was not dead, that 529 was near to 523.

This time 523 Employee was happy to give me another numbers:

022-22627519: Engaged for infinity

022-22627521: Who again redirected me to 529

022-22662421: He re-directed me to 22627518

022-22626372: He was sitting on another floor, and was quick to respond that he is from Foreign exchange office.

Disgusted that my lunch time was running out, and that I was becoming restless I now decided to escalate the issue.

The re-directed Gentle man was very polite and informative, I suspected him to be in supervisory level.
He first told me to call at 629, 619 which I had already done so. Seeing my anxious nature, he was quick to tell me the fax number : 022-22673797 and insisted me that if you want to get the job done, fax it here.

I was in no mood at that time to write a letter and than fax it, so I asked him the telephone number of Chief General Manager, and I got that in a jiffy.
022-22627511

After 3 attempts, a Lady picked up who showed complete helpless ness in either connecting to Chief General Manager, or in understanding my issue.

When I asked the mobile number of CGM, I could not believe, I had it in fraction of second.

So I decided to call Shri. Mehtani, CGM on his mobile. He decided to cut it out my landline numbers. So I called him from mobile number which also was pressed with 'Red' Button.

I again gave a try at 22627523 (RTGS) and the employee picked up to listen to my query as to why the other number beside you is not been picked up? Hearing this he again politely and in one sentence asked me to keep on trying. He put down the phone in the cradle and without knowing that I am still at hold, he put the mouthpeice on the side of the phone so that I do not disturb him. I had the chance to hear the after talks.

The other employee to the Employee who picked up the phone: " Who was he"?
The employee who picked up the phone to other (Probably NEFT department Mr. Setti): "The man was asking why the phone was not picked up. Ha ha ha!"

It was past 2 PM, and hunger and anger was overwhelming me. But not to stop is what I learned in Civil Service carrier.

So finally I decided to write a fax letter, where my subject line read 'Not picking up of phone number 22627529 and 22627519' instead of my transaction complaint. I had made sure this time to display my Official Post with full details. I faxed to them with plea to call me back at my mobile immediately and asking for the explanation as to why my call has not been picked up.

I also made sure that, I faxed the letter at least thrice so to make sure the impact.

I finally made an attempt to call Mr. Mehtani, CGM from yet another mobile, which was this time picked up by him.

He was prompt enough to call in his chamber, Mr. Setti even without knowing my designation. Mr Setty noted down my issue and was prompt enough to call me back with satisfactory explanation.

He then asked me if I was the one who had faxed the letter, and was hell bent on asking me for pardon.

When I narrated his laughter, that he did not pick up the phone:

"Sir, I am alone, many of staff are on leave. I had to do so many authorization of NEFT, so tell me Sir, how can I pick up the phone".

I think my Fax made some impact and I again got a call from CGM, who had already helped me on my earlier call. He explained to me the points I had raised on the fax that, 'Mr. Meghani on his mobile had also not picked up the phone', that he was busy in the meeting and that he responded to me once he came out.

The Project tool "Add a Social Issue for Wiki" is meant for all of the Members of Big Helpers to raise an issue of common Social Importance. Once the issue is raised, it need to be voted upon by all of us stating if that issue is really important to be covered under Wiki segment.

The Issue can also be discussed in there by providing basic input the issue. Once we have enough material and links available with that Project, we would assign the work to one or many of our Team Members or 'Site Contributors'
, who would then undertake the writing of the wiki article.

So sum up, project tool is used to

Raise an issue

Decide about its utility, whether to be incorporated in our wiki

Gathering and posting of material. We call it alpha phase of wiki development.

Assigning and taking up of the issue by Member for writing it up, would be called as 'Wiki Author (s)'

Follow-up with more resources and links if found, for the Wiki Author (s) to help him incorporate it in the Wiki.

Once incorporated, the Project would be marked 'incorporated'.

Hello,
As a policy decision we took, all our first 500 members would be our Pioneer Members and would carry a special Label below their name always.
This is the label:

However, those Pioneer Members who remain in-active for a long period would be reverted back to normal Membership.

To decide about the days of inactivity, we are yet to take the decision though.

Those members who post articles at our wiki segment and those chosen by our Management would be designated as 'Site Contributor'.

For us Site Contributors are very important and and they are the ones specialized in their fields.

The Site Contributors would work in close coordination with our 'Big Helpers Team' and would assist in Wiki Article developments. The Site Contributors can be assigned any of our Projects and would then work on them.

During our initial days we had decided to focus more on Wiki Article building through Project tools and also contributing to Wiki Segment.

I would like to draw attention of our team and members of our most important focus area of the Big Helpers.

Projects: The Projects tool are supposed to be used for building concept and following it up.

Currently we have two categories of the project tools:

Add a Social Issue for Wiki

Big Helpers development

In Ask for Social Issue for Wiki, you simply raise an important question affecting our society and which need to be answered in an article form. It is not meant for discussions but for full proof article which will help citizens of India in understanding and solution of the issue. Once the Wiki is created, it can then be improved upon, edited upon by members and then discussed upon.

Similiarly you can post new features or bug about the website here Big Helpers development

Wiki: This is meant to create wiki like article which can be edited and improved upon by collective knowledge base of the community. When the wiki article is created by member, it becomes his article and all those who edits, add, delete, format it becomes the article contributor. This way by community effort we can build upon the solution to common questions which have been consolidated at the Project tools.

The forums can be used for any discussions and help, and sometimes when the topic is really relevant it would be shifted or copied down in the wiki segement too.

Rest to follow....

As always is with our websites, today we are launching our first public release of website 'Big Helpers' on 16th November 2007 on 'World Tolerance Day'.

We have made many customization features to suit the need of the website. many would find pretty similarity with the 'RTI India' Website, however there are way to many difference which only regular member would come to realize.

One of the important feature of the site is the wiki (Knowledge base) section, where the important topics can be operationalize with the collective wisdom of the Big Helpers Community.

Similarly 'Project' tools have been added so that we take up some important issues to its logical conclusion.
