Karnataka Registration Vehicle driving in TN is permitted for a limited period i.e 15 days or month. More than month you have pay life time tax and re-registration in TN apart from taking NOC from Bangalore is tough task and also involve financial burden. After your friend comes USA again making registration of Karnataka from TN RTO also involves financial burden. Better if any one uses the vehicle in Bangalore for keeping in good condition.

As long as your friends time is good no problem. Many people come to Chennai from Bangalore (through KTK Regd. Vehicle) everyday for many works (personal, shopping, etc) than AP regd. vehicle. Traffic Police will think the vehicle will run for short time. If you caught with the same police second time (usually police will have eye on other state vehicle for extra buck) he will seize the vehicle. You have to pay penalty and Life Tax and Re-registration. etc. You have to run around between the RTO and Police Station.

If your luck is good, without any problem even you can run more than year, using your friends (other State regd. vehicle) is always risky.
