Getting Book Material Copyrighted

I have written a material which I want to be published in a book form. Before I send the material to various publishers, I want to get it copyrighted so that somebody else does not pubish the book based on it.
How to get it copyrighted, what is the cost, is it necessary to get hard copy - since it may run into several hundred pages, I would like to submit a CD instead of the printed material, which is the Govt Dept and its address for doing copyright.
I also want to know the procedure for getting license for publishing a periodical. Is it a must, if the periodical is a priced periodical ?

you may copyright ur book in electronic form i.e. providing in C.D. you have to apply for copyright registration at copyright office, new delhi. address & other information you can get at their website
